Extending the internet from an SMC router

hi, i just got an airport express and i'm trying to get it to extend the internet from my SMC wireless router. i have a cable modem wired to the SMC router *supposed to be wirelessly connected to the AX* which will extend my internet further. i tried just plugging it in and it is recognized my my computer, but no internet. i can also print and use airtunes wirelessly through it. WHAT"S GOING ON!?!?!

You can attach your AX to your existing wireless network as a client. As a client you will be able to stream iTunes and use the AX build in printer server with a compatible USB printer. This is not, however, network extension, where the range of the existing network is increased. The only way to extend a wireless network is to use WDS (with a compatible main base station, which your SMC is not) or as a wireless access point, connected to your existing network via ethernet.
