Connect a parallel printer to my iMac G4

I have an iMac G$ flat panel and was given an HP 2300 printer.
I only found a Belkin USB printer adapter (F5U002) to connect to the parallel port in the printer. Of course does not work. The cable adapter is not compatible with mac. Eventhough the computer finds the printer, but is not able to comunicate effectively with it.
Any ideas

Save yourself the trouble and just get a USB printer.

Mgrossi, Print Server are a inexpensive way to achieve IP printing from a parallel port printer. I am now using a Hawking 10/100 Parallel Print Server to keep a Older Epson wide bed in service (as a backup). And yes, parallel to USB adapter usually do not work.
