Connecting a Meade LX90 telescope to my powerbook

I have been using a Pee Cee to control my telescope until now but since I apple I would like to use it instead. Meade say there is a cable which is out of stock supprise supprise so I bought a targus usb to serial adapter cable. Only trouble is that it must require a driver to function and there isnt one for Mac's. (strange).

Has anyone gone through this pain and come out the other side ?

I don't have an answer I'm afraid but here are a few clues.

Serial-USB adapters were recently discussed on MacFixit:

The conclusion seems to be some work and some don't! My Keyspan one works just fine. Unfortunately Targus isn't mentioned.

One possibility is the Starry Night technical discussion group.

Which can be very helpful on the technical side of things.

By the way, is it the Targus PA088U/E? If so the Mac isn't mentioned on the Targus website, which is perhaps a bad sign.
