I have just recently burned some DVD's for Christmas gifts for people. However, I have found that the won't play back on my Sony Home Theater DVD player. It says "Playback prohibited due to area restrictions." I thought iDVD burned region free DVDs, and even if it didn't my PowerBook is set to region 1 as is my Sony DVD player. However, I have had no trouble playing it in a region free Cyberhome DVD player.
It also wouldn't play on my father-in-law's JVC player. I got a similar message.
What's going on? I thought region free DVD's would play on any DVD player.
I burned DVD's for my family and only the people who have newer DVD players could play them. Then, at that, they skipped badly. It played perfect on my DVD player but I have a really nice Panasonic that is also a DVD burner. My in-laws have still not been able to watch it and they have tried 3 different DVD players already. Can anyone help?
I had the same problem. I've tried playing DVD on Sony, and Denon player with no luck. I've tried playing it on a PC using Intervideo software. It played but also display out of range input warning. I thought that it might be the DVD speed since I was burning it with my old iMac 15" Flat Panel. I was using a DVD that supports 1x-8x. I found an old blank Apple DVD 1x so I decided to try that as well. Well, I got the same result. The DVD contents consist of pictures, audio, dv movies (regular), dv movies (wide).
