Disabled CD drive on PAckard Bell Laptop

After loading the CD software for my daughters 5G IPOD 60GB onto her Packard Bell laptop with XP Home with SP2 the IPOD software reports unable to find device drivers for CD RW drive and stops loading. The CD no longer appears in EXPLORER and reports under device manager that it has a problem. ITunes runs when started manually, but when a CD is loaded into the drive it does not recognise it. Using System Restore to rollback the installation the CD works fine. I am currently downloading the latest IPOD software from the Apple site, but does anyone have any ideas ????? I have tried the same Apple software on my laptop (HP) and all is well!!!!!!
