Can I export itunes files to windows media player?
itunes lets me import music tracks from my windows media player, but I can't seem to get itunes tracks to go the othe way, into my windows media player. I'd like to be able to do both, as sometimes I buy tracks online at MSN, and sometimes at itunes, and I like to keep em on both players if possible. Can anyone advise? Thanks.
it seems that apple discourages (more like censors) any mention of transfers from itunes to windows media player.
in my search of this board, I've seen dozens of threads about transfering from wmp to itunes but no single authoritative response about the reverse transfer.
from my attempts at doing this, it looks like you can only do this by burning a cd and then importing from a cd to wmp.
hi peeble, thanks for reply. didn't quite understand your last two paragraphs, which seemed to be contradicting each other. you say I to play files in WMP I just need to use the 'add file' option. But in your next para you say itunes tracks are protected so will not play in WMP. I've tried using the 'add file' option, and got a 'WMP is unable to play track as in wrong file format...' type message.
Any song bought from the iTunes music store is downloaded in protected AAC format. A file that is protected cannot be converted to any other format. AAC files cannot be played in Windows Media Player. The only way to get around this is to burn the song(s) to a cd, then rip them back to your hard drive using windows media player.
OK, if you buy songs at MSN you have to burn them to audio MP3s and re-rip them as MP3s to your PC into iTunes. Then they will go on your iPod.
If you buy songs at Apple you have to burn them to audio MP3s and re-rip them as MP3s to your PC intop whatever MSN uses. Then they will go on your MP3 player.
These different digital rights management schemes don't make it easy on us honest folks.
To quote Otto, "inconvenient" and that's the mildest comment I can use.
I myself have it easy because I like indie label music and I use emusic, which is mp3 to start with.
