Belkin FM Transmitter

I just got a Belkin FM transmitter for my 5th generation iPod. This is the one I have : http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_ID=166893. I didn't realize that they had come out with the iTrip for them...anyways, I tried to use it in my car and it was so staticy it was irritating and I couldn't hear anything. The directions say to tune it to a channel that comes in with clear music, but I'm not sure if that's right, or if I'm supposed to find a completely static station? Let me know if anyone has had any luck with this. Thanks!

I have a real hard time believing that you are supposed to be tuning the Belkin unit to a frequency already occupied by a strong FM station. Why would they want you to choose a frequency that will have a station competing with your Belkin unit? I think they must mean to pick a frequency where the music from your iPod is coming in clearly. Everything I've ever seen about units like this says you need to find a frequency which is NOT occupied by an FM station.

I too have a Belkin FM transmitter -- the model that you can plug in to the cigarette lighter. You need to tune the car radio to a station that doesn't have a signal (you only hear static). I use 89.5 and that seems to work pretty well. It isn't cd quality sound, but it is pretty good. I've found that I get better sound on the home stereo, so I assume interference while driving around the city reduces sound quality in the car...
