You cannot get iTunes to open until Quicktime does get installed. Its a pain, I know. Did you try a careful Quicktime standalone install? Did you try turning off your Firewall and Antivirus programs prior to the install?
Wait, how did you get iTunes to download without Quicktime? Well, I have seen that happen. Ok, post back if you need more help.

hi Rachyl!

Wait, how did you get iTunes to download without Quicktime? Well, I have seen that happen.

here's what i think is going on with this one. with a -3 or a -1 the installer bundle (including QT) gets downloaded, but there's an error in the QT part of the install. that occurs after the itunes part of the install has gone through, so you end up with itunes installed but no QT.

the careful QT standalone install often ends up being "semi-diagnostic". sometimes it's enough to fix the problem on its own. other times, we get an error message indicating what the real underlying problem is with the QT part of the install: 1402, 1606, 1714, 0x80040707 (in these cases usually indicating broken registry installation entries lurking around), or whatnot.
