Date & Time - Regarding Newfoundland Standard Time

it seems that apple may have missed the "half" time zone (30 minute offset) which is newfoundland canada in the "set time zone" under settings > date & time. the weird thing is that they included "st. john's" (newfoundland's capital) in the world clock time zones (well the list of cities representing the time zones anyway...). anyway, syncing with the computer results in the correct local time being set, but the choice of buenos ares as the time zone (which is the closest choice to newfoundland, but in real life off by 30 minutes). that's fine, but when you choose "st. john's" as a world clock, the resulting clock is 30 minutes behind. in fact all world clock cities are off by this amount. not a big deal because i can just choose "nuuk" and get the correct local time displayed, it's just the city isn't correct for my location. again, this also effects any additional world clocks i create, which essentially renders the city name useless. in order to remedy this i can go back to the the time/date under the settings menu and just set it at any time zone as long as the specified zone's current time is right; then all my world clocks will be fine. but if i want to have the convenience of the time showing in the "now playing" window, this time will be incorrect for my current location in st. john's, newfoundland. to recap, it seems it's either:
A.) have my world clocks correct so that i can use the alarm function but have the incorrect local time displayed in the "now playing" window.
B.) have the world clocks incorrect so the wrong city names are displayed but have the correct local time displayed in the "now playing" window.

if you're still with me thus far, does anyone know of any remedies that i am overlooking? is this an issue that apple will have to address? thanks.

in addition to that when syncing my outlook calendar appointments they are also a half hour off. I guess the short end of the stick comes our way again as 1.1 came out after a few support tickets have been sent in about the -3.5 GMT issue. This was also an issue when I bought my 3rd G just over a year ago and they have yet to solve this issue.. disappointing in terms of the service I've grown to expect from apple. you'd think they might be able to innovate something so at least we'd be able to customize it or the Pod would sync timezones with the computer. I sit with my fingers crossed in the meantime.

I have been after Apple for about two years now to fix this problem.

For a bug that would be ludicrously simple to fix, their iPod division has failed to deliver.

I have even e-mailed Tony Fadell at his personal address regarding this problem on January 28th, 2006

Hello Ian,

Thanks for your feedback email and for being a (repeat) customer.
I will look into the issue you have raised.

Best Regards,
Tony Fadell

He assured me he would look into it personally, but no firmware solution has been put forward.

Newfoundland isn't the only time zone missing from the iPod - all of India runs on +5:30UTC. That's a billion people effected by this bug!

Terrible.

Yes you are correct, but I think Apple had to pick a stopping point at how many time zones they used. Since there are 24 time zones in the world, 1 for each hour it takes for the Earth to rotate and the fact that you have to add DST (Daylight Savings Time), the IPOD was set up this way.

It would also be better if they set it up based on the UTC system and had a custom setting to ajust location.

here is one of them billion (and then some!) people Ian referred to... For a nifty product like this it is quite hard to imagine that they didn't consider adding all the time zones. And the lack of this feature is surprisingly irritating!

Setting an alarm, especially if one is travelling in and out of time zones warrants some dubious calculation. And waking up half an earlier than required, to the Stone Temple Pilots is no fun let me assure you...
