Suffle lost in Itunes

Got a brand new Ipod Shuffle for christmas, got to work on my grandma's computer, bought and transferred songs. Now that I am home, when I bring up Itunes, it asks if I wnat to sync libriaries, I say no, and the Ipod icon disappears - not allowing me to do anything - change to manual - transfer a song, nothing. HELP!
