Patriot RAM

I have a iMac G5 2.0GHz 17" (M9844LL/A) and am looking to add 1 GB of Patriot RAM (Patriot because of good reviews and price). Patriot seems to offer two 1 GB models that seem the same but one is listed as "PC specific" (model PSD1G400) and one is Apple specific (model PSA1GG5). I was going to order the Ram from Newegg.com (based on reputation) but they only offer the "PC specific" Ram. Does it make a difference and has anyone any experience with the PC model (PSD1G400? There are many reviews by Mac users on the PC specific Ram link raving about how great this Ram is.

Dealram.com says about the Patriot Ram: "Warning: The RAM listed below is not labeled by the seller for use with this system. However, it is the same type of RAM used in this system and may be compatible." Thoughts?

Also, does the fact that the voltage is listed as 2.6v matter (Apple recommends 2.5v)?

You may be asking yourself, "Why doesn't he just get the Apple specific Ram?" I've only found it on one site and both the Apple and PC specific Ram cost almost twice as much as the Newegg Ram. Thanks.

I can't speak about Patriot RAM, but I can recommend trying 18004MEMORY.com for your RAM upgrade.

My system is identical to yours. I recently purchased two sticks of 1gig RAM for a total of around $170 -- though they also sell Samsung RAM for about $100 for a 1gig stick.

If you want to get Samsung RAM (the kind Apple installs), you can simply telephone them. If you don't mind generic RAM (with a lifetime guarantee), you must order online. It costs $75 or $79 for good and better quality RAM, respectively.

If you want to check prices, log in to DealRAM for a nice selection.

The RAM's been in my system for a few days now, and everything seems perfect. I guess the lesson is that Patriot RAM, whiile good, isn't your only alternative.
