iTunes preferences file(s) and registry info

Ok, weird issue: I mapped a network drive, which hosts my music files. The drive, however, does not appear in my "My Computer". iTunes won't let you manually type in a path (at least I couldn't get it to do so), and since my mapped drive doesn't show up in the "My Computer", I'm unable to use it for my music location.

I do know, however, that I can access said mapped drive, because I can manually type it in an Explorer window and see the files just fine.

So my question is, where is this location stored in iTunes preference file(s), or is it in the Registry? I thought I saw the appropriate file in c:\Documents and Settings\myaccount\Application Settings\Apple Computer\iTunes, but that file is a binary file, and I couldn't decode it.

anyone? I'd be greatly appreciative 🙂

Thanks

This is from iTunes > Help

To move where imported audio (and other) files are stored from now on, choose Edit > Preferences, then click the Advanced tab at the top of the window and click General. Click the Change button and select a new location for your files. New songs and other items you import will be stored in the new location. Songs already imported stay in their current location (to move them, see below).
To move songs and other files you've already imported to a new location (for example, a different folder on your hard disk, or a different computer), choose Edit > Preferences, then click the Advanced tab at the top of the window and click General. Click the Change button and select a new location for your files. Quit iTunes. Open the iTunes Music folder (by default, in the iTunes folder in the My Music folder inside your My Documents folder), select everything in the folder and drag it to the new location (do not drag the entire iTunes Music folder, only its contents).

er, did you read my problem at all? What you posted DOES NOT HELP. I cannot select, by the method given, the mapped drive. Hence my need to find the preference file(s) and/or registry settings.

I already tried all the stuff in Help, etc. Please answer my question that was asked, or don't answer, you don't help the situation.

Yes, I read your problem. It IS stored in the prefs file where you found it, and you're correct, you don't get into that prefs file directly, because it's binary.

You use iTunes to change it, the Edit > Preferences > Advanced from the help I posted. When you click the OK button in iTunes, it will save it to the prefs file.

Now tell me again why you can't see it in Windows Explorer?

My mapped drive (currently U:\) does not appear in My Computer. Ergo, iTunes doesn't know it exists. I was being rude because it appeared I was getting standared Tier 1 support, which I do not need. I was looking for something beyond the standard canned responses. If I wanted Tier 1, I would have called the Geek Squad or something. 🙂

I was hoping that someone would know, hopefully from a programmatical standpoint, how else to alter that data.

You got standard tier 1 support because it didn't look like you knew what you were doing....trying to find a binary prefs file and change that, when you couldn't even see your mapped drive in My Computer.

And you seem to be under the misconception that you have actually contacted Apple tech support, as well.

But by all means, call them, and I am sure they will be glad to supply you with details of their proprietary formats of prefs files and itl files, everything you want....
