How do I know if the iPod Nano has latest iPod updater version?

I downloaded the latest iPod updater 2005-11-17 to make sure I had the latest updates. I installed it on my PC but I didn’t have the iPod connected. It never prompted me to connect the iPod so it never updated the iPod itself. Is this normal? I thought in addition to updating the software on the PC, it would also update the software on the iPod. How do I know I have the latest software on the iPod? When I look at the settings on the iPod itself, it says ver 1.o (iPod Nano).

Windows XP, Windows XP, iPOD Nano

The latest version of the nano software is 1.0. There have been no updates since it was first introduced, and indeed on the iPod updater page it states that "iPod Updater 2005-11-17 includes new iPod Software 1.1.3 for iPod shuffle. iPod Updater 2005-11-17 contains the same software versions as iPod Updater 2005-10-12 for all other iPod models."

The iPod software is not installed on the computer, it's installed on the iPod, and the updater is simply a program that does this. You have to download the updater, install it to the computer, run the program, then connect the iPod when prompted.

However, there is no point in doing this until a new version of the nano software is released.
