iTUNES WON'T PLAY ANYTHING

I've had iTunes for a while, and never had any problem with it. It imports CDs, and downloads to my iPod fine.

Recently, it stopped playing anything -- I hit the "play" button and nothing happens, for any song. I've removed it, reinstalled it, checked for latest directX version, and run the Apple troubleshooting checklist twice. No results. I "deathorized" the computer, and reinstalled -- same thing. My computer itself is in perfect working order and I consider myself an advanced user.

I've seen where others whose iTunes won't play just certain songs -- mine won't play any. Thanks in advance for the help.

Can you play a song in QuickTime? Because iTunes uses that.

QuickTime > File > Open File

Change the drop-down box from Files of type: Movies
to Files of type: Audio Files

Then browse out to a song file and see if it plays.

If it doesn't play in QT, try a QT standalone install.

Yep, tried Quicktime, and it works fine. Itunes still doesn't work. I'm baffled.

Well you're beginning to baffle me, too! I was sure you'd come back and say QT didn't work. But that's actually good, at least QT is OK.

OK, what version iTunes, what version QT?

OK, iTunes 6.0.1.3 and QT 7.0.3. Correct me if I'm wrong.

When you select a song and hit the play arrow, do you see the bar with the start time over on the left, and end time over on the right?

And does the black diamond move, or not?

I am also having the same problem with i-tunes. The songs play in quick time fine. When playing in I -Tunes the bar moves but no sound. This is getting very frustrating. I am trying to fix this for my wife. Any help will be appreciated.

Is there any chance you have mute enabled? Go up to Controls on the top line and see if mute has a check mark next to it.

I open iTunes, select a song -- any song -- and hit the "play" arrow. Nothing happens. The "diamond" doesn't move, though the "play" arrow will highlight when I click it.

No, mute is not enabled. Even if it were, the "diamond" would still move, I think -- and it's not moving.

Can you play any songs in Windows Media Player? If it just iTunes that hates the songs?

I have the same problem. Quicktime plays everything, but iTunes can't preview songs in the Music Store or even play music from my library. The diamond does not move, no sound is emitted.

my problem is similar.
try to play a song with iTunes, didn't work, says didn't find the original....

songs are working with QT and winamp

I have a 20 gb IPOD I have had for months and I am having the same problem. I can't play any of my songs on itunes and I can't play previews on the music store. The diamond doesn't move or anything. And, any other media players I use work fine. I checked to make sure itunes was still my default and it is. So now all my music is worthless. I have reloaded itunes completly and updated allmy programs and stillnothing. So, I hope someone answers this post with some help.
