Converting MPEG4 audio files to mp3

Question

does anyone have a suggestion as to what i can download off the internet for free, to convert mpeg4 audio files to mp3's?

iTunes can do this. Set your Importing preferences to MP3, then right click on the track and select "Convert to MP3". Easy.

Can I do this for files that already have been imported as MPEG4?

Yes. As long as we are not talking about AAC files from the ITMS. Apple will not let you directtly convert them to MP3 files.
