Toast Buffer Underrun Error from iDVD .img

Happy New Year All.

Need help, iMovie project is 3hrs 59mins, disk image appears (7.46GB) and plays fine.

Toast Titanium 7.0.2 gets to Writing Lead-in/Preparing then returns Buffer Underrun Error. Prevention is checked in Recorder settings.

I've gone done to the slowest write speed with the same result.

Strange things is, whether I drag or navigate to .img to mount the disk image, a "1" in the .img title is changed to a "!" in the Toast window, and DVD Player opens up the image. Is this normal?

Are you using DVD+R DL discs? What brand of media are you using?

Are you doing anything else with your computer during the burning process?

How many characters are in the file name?

Are you using DVD+R DL discs?

No, Toast is compressing 41%.

What brand of media are you using?

Verbatim DVD -R single layer.

Are you doing anything else with your computer during the burning process?

A number of programs are open. One time maybe iTunes is playing, or Safari is pulling up a page or two. But I believe I've tried a burn overnight.

How many characters are in the file name?

20 including spaces/underscores. And just tried to change the file name, Toast persists in saying its reading from file: "!3th....", when the .img name is changed to "thirteenth..."

Thanks for your attention on this.

OK, so we aren't really talking about an iDVD 5 problem. I suggest you ask your question on the Roxio Toast support forum at http://www.roxio.com/en/support/toast/v6.jhtml

Spaces in file names aren't a good idea in general. Try taking them out and replacing them with underscores.

I would also suggest you have nothing else running when you try the burn.

Many people here are knowledgeable about Toast so thought to ask.

The last time I had a problem with a project Apple Discussions went off-line for renovations. As it happens Roxio Discussions are now off-line as they revamp they're discussions. I think Apple Discussions has lost something in my short time on it, but many have thought Roxio's needed fixing.

Spaces are automatically replaced with underscores.

I've successfully burned with other things running, seems people are supposed to get a second machine if they want to burn and work on other things. So much for multitasking or multithreading.

A Toast disk image of the iDVD disk image gives same
error.

So you are saying that taking the DL disk image file (file extension .img) you created in iDVD 5 and using Toast Titanium 7 to create a 'fit-to-disk' DVD disk image (file extension .toast) still gives you a Buffer Underrun Error?

Even though you aren't writing to writable media at that point?

Or are you trying to burn a successfully created .toast image file to writable media and THEN get the Buffer Underrun Error?

(As an experiment, last night, I took one of my short DVDs and used Toast Titanium 7 to create a new disk image file and everything worked just fine.)

The latter...trying to burn a successfully created .toast image file to writable media and THEN get the Buffer Underrun Error

OK - we've finally isolated the problem to a media problem or burner problem. I suppose it could also be related to marginal RAM in your computer. Anyway, we've finally moved beyond a problem with iDVD 5 or a problem with Toast Titanium's reencoding process.
