How do I change MTU size for Airport connection?

I have a iBook G4 Running OS X 10.4.3. I have a Linksys DSL Router and Wireless access point in my home (I have a mixed Apple and PC environment). Several Applications (Yahoo Mail in particular) fail to work over my router unless I change the MTU size to something less than the default (1500). This is due to the fact that the router uses PPPoE and the MTU size cannot be greater than 1492 over a PPPoE connection.

I have no problem changing this value on my PCs (I use DrTCP from www.dslreports.com). I can do this for both wired and wireless connections.

However on the Apple, the only place I can configure the MTU size is for Ethernet connections. I cannot change the MTU size for the Airport connection because there is no place to do this.

Hence when I wish to send E-mail, I have to get up and walk over to the router and momentarily plug my iBook into an Ethernet cable to send my mail (sigh!). Most everything else works pretty well over the wireless. On my PCs, everything works correctly on both the wired and wireless connections.

How can I reduce the MTU size for my Airport connection?

I do not have the folder "kicker.bundle" on my system. However, I found out how to modify the XML preferences file to achieve this effect (probably doing manually what Cocktail does with its GUI). I have seen other recommendations that involve modifying some file in the Startup folders. None corresponded to my system. However, I believe that "preferences" is on all OS X systems.
