RAZR V3 - Why doesn't BT File Exchange work?

I hope someone can help me - this is driving me nuts!

I just got a Black RAZR V3 (Cingular) to replace my aging (but RELIABLE!) Sony-Ericsson T637 and I am regretting it already. The Address Book is PATHETIC compared to the Sony - you cannot list your address book entries by last name! This is ridiculous if you have 300+ numbers.

I can live with this issue, Motorola's outsourced Bengali tech support (bless 'em for trying) and the fact that they do not support Mac products - as a Mac user since 1989 I'm used to being a second-class consumer.

What I can't abide is being told this phone is Mac-compatible and spending all day trying to put all my ringtones and pics in it because BT File Exchange REFUSES to work!

I have a G4 with a D-Link USB BT Adapter. The RAZR was ID'd and paired with no problem. iSync worked flawlessly and synched my Address Book with no problem. I can use BluePhone Elite to send and receive calls and SMS text messages with no problem.

The BT icon in the menubar always remains "connected." I have BT File Exchange enabled with this phone in BT Preferences.

BUT when I try to send a file with BT File Exchange I get a "The file transfer failed: the connection failed" message. When I attempt to browse the device I get a "Connection Failed" message.

What is UP with this? This phone is recognized by every app I have (including iStumbler). Has anyone had the same problem?

I've tried deleting the BT FE .plist file, restarting the phone and the G4 - everything I can think of. If I can't get this issue sorted out this phone is going back to Cingular and I'm getting a Sony-Ericsson again. : (

Hi- I'm a Verizon customer, not Cingular but I know that Verizon purposefully cripples their phones to not allow BT file transfer... forcing you to email your pics, etc... which costs money. I would guess that maybe Cingular does the same?

As you've noticed... the Razor IS compatible with iSync... and there aren't a ton of phones that even do that, so that's a positive. I have a Motorola e815 and there ARE ways on the net to hack it to enable BT file transfer, though I'm not going to try them. Does the Razor have a memory card? I bought a memory card for my phone and I do transfers that way.

Anyway... like I said, I'm not sure that this is a Cingular issue, I'm just offering a thought since that's what I'm dealing with. You might try browsing the iSync part of the forums to find more info!

First, I would never trade up my T637 for a RAZR. I like the RAZR but hate the Motorola interface, it *****.

But.... have you tried to turn the phone off and on again? I posted in another thread that a while back I had a Moto V555 and V551. In both cases I could get bluetooth working then nothing. Most people dont think of turning their phones off, EVER, but it worked after doing so. There were a few other times after that bluetooth would cut out on the phone, another power cycle and things worked for a while again. Its worth a try, Cingular usually does not disable features anymore. My T637 is unlocked and open as well as my friends recent phone.

You can test if it is Apple's or Motorola's fault. Download my GSM Remote application, select your Motorola and go to Window menu > Folder Browser…

If it works there, it is Apple's fault – GSM Remote works very different than Apple's internal application. If it does not work either, it is quite sure your Motorola was crippled by your operator.
