LOW BATTERY INDICATOR AFTER 30 MIN. OF USE?

Hello,

My name is Alex Young and I've had my iPod for about 5 months (since the end of July of last year). The problem with my iPod is that it shows a low battery indicator after I use it for about 30 minutes (and this is right after I've charged it for at least 4-6 hours). I usually charge my iPod before I sleep and I unplug it for use after I wake up. This has going on for at least a week now and I am unsure as to why this is happening now.

I've never had this problem before - my iPod use to play for hours on end but now it barely lasts through 8-10 songs.

Can anybody help me as to how I can fix this problem? I've went through the http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/ (the requests for repair and service) but apparently my warranty has expired. This I find completely outrageous as to have my iPod malfunction after my warranty has expired -how can the warranty account for my problems that may happen sporadically and randomly (as it now seems)?

Any answers and commments will be greatly appreciated that will help me fix this problem.

Life would be great if things would only break during the warranty period. Life is soooo unfair.

Before you trip on your lower lip from pouting, try these:
- reset, several times
- update the firmware
- calibrate the battery and the battery meter

How would I go about resetting and updating the firmware?

Also, how would I calibrate the battery and the battery meter?

If you bought your iPod in July 2005 it is still under warranty. The warranty is for one year. You should try the things mentioned in the other post and if they don't work, send it back to Apple to be repaired under warranty.

Hello,

I've tried to recalibrate and the things mentioned before but to no avail - the battery life still dies quite quickly. I've also went on Apple's support website, namely the REQUEST PRODUCT SERVICE, but it says I am out of my warranty? Our records indicate that the warranty on your product has expired. This is what I've quoted:

If you believe your product is covered by Apple's One-Year
Limited Warranty or an Apple Care extended service plan,
please fax your proof-of-purchase immediately.

I do not have my proof-of-purchase as my iPod was a gift. However, Ileen said that my iPod is covered under a 1 year warranty? According to the Apple website, it says that I do not have it.

Anything else I could do?

Are you sure that the iPod was brand new when you bought it? If the box is white and came with a charger it is probley older and the warinty is probley expired. If it's box was the same color as the iPod and didnt come with a charger it is a 2nd Gen and is probley still under warenty
