Is 5.1 audio/speakers impossible on an iBook?

Hi, I know that the iBook is made (like most laptops) for 2.1 channel audio, and that it's integrated audio which makes things tricky. Is there anything I can buy / install / fiddle with so that I can hook her up with a 5.1 speaker system? Thanks!

i believe you would need som sort of external device (firewire or USB) that would encode the audio and send it out via optical, digital coaxial, or direct to your speakers. m-audio might have something that would work.

A USB sound card would allow you to do this. Creative has a few products, like this, that should work fine.

Does that Creative USB Live work with a Mac? The requirments say Windows.
