Ramifications of clicking 'like' on a post?

Ok last one for tonight.

Can't seem to find an explanation of what the ramifications are of clicking the like (thumbs up) button on a post. Extra sugar? A trip to Disneyland?

And that would be of interest to me how/why? I do not own this gadget; therefore, I have no technical knowledge about it and am not interested/don't have time to read anything in that forum.

If I want Facebook like features, I'd go to Facebook. As it is, I do not visit social networking sites; I prefer to do my social networking in person. I use these forums to a) learn and b) share my technical knowledge. Period. (Albeit with a dose of humor when apropriate).

For T. Kessler: Please act like a responsible adult. I don't care if anyone is popular or not - this is not high school. If that "feature" goes into effect, I am done here.

Barbara, that was kind of an inside joke on the App Store's inane rating system. Someone will purchase say a note-taking app for $4.99 but then, when it doesn't work EXACTLY like MS Word, give the app a 1 star rating, complain that it was over priced, and demand their money back! 🙂

I see - thank you; since I do not use the App Store, I wouldn't know about it. And I believe I've purchased 4 songs from the iTunes store, the last one was more than a year ago. But, even if I did, I would not play a silly "ratings" game. I do believe T. Kessler was serious though - but I could be wrong.

I will try this for a while and see what refinements/changes may be made. Being rated as 'unpopular' or 'popular' is not acceptable to me. I know my capabilities and deficiencies and I am not here to be in a contest.

Currently, we do not have the "popularity" feature turned on in the system. We are looking to roll that out in future releases. This is where the Like button will come in as it is factored into the ranking for the "Popular" widget that we look to enable in Your View in the future.

Please tell me you aren't serious about that.

Surely all that's appropriate here is what applied before this unwelcome re-design was foisted on us — (a) did an answer provide the solution, or (b) was the answer helpful. I note that the Support "Communities" (oh how I detest that change!) prefers "Correct" to "Solved", which in itself is an unfortunate linguistic change.

I was being light-hearted about the specifics, but would be open to some form of ranking if implemented right. I wouldnt want it impeding on the discussion or other "experiences" here unless I explicitely choose to do so. Overall though, I do agree that avoiding trolls is perhaps a far more appealing option than implementing such a feature, if push comes to shove.

Surely you jest. "Rankings"???? Please. As I said, we are not in grade school here; I know my strengths and weaknesses and do not partake in popularity contests - that is such a superficial and non-sensical waste of time.
