Hi there,

I saw a video clip of Apple presenting the new Final Cut Pro X which gonna replaced Final Cut Express4.

Does that mean I gotta start learning all over again from scratch ?

Thanks

Not from scratch, but yes, you will need to learn new things.  But then, isn't that the way of life?

It's supposed to replace Final Cut Pro 7, not Final Cut Express, so you are still good, but it's worth learning.

If you already know Final Cut Pro, you will not need to learn everything from scratch. Final Cut Studio X is not complicated to use.

For training, consider using iMovie for a while

When iMovie made its transition from vers A (= ≤6) to version B (= 08/09/11) we had this discussion ad nauseam ... the User Interface and how things are handled is from ground new.

The Art of Editing is still the same ...-

If you make the transition, try to forget that FCP-X is a 'next generation', an evolutionary successor ... it is a NEW app with an old name

    I'm more concerned with these new forums . . . . . I am totally lost!

Where can we put our geographic location?

How can we see at a glance the originator of the post and the number of replies etc. etc. etc.?

  • Ian R. Brown Level 6 (18,615 points)

    I'm going bonkers!

I can now see the number of replies and views but I have lost the name of the last poster . . . . . and I still can't see the name of the originator (until I open up the thread/topic).

I just went back to the discussion page and could then see the last poster in each topic but not the replies etc.

    What is going on?

What am I doing wrong to make the format keep changing?

Report your concerns in the beta section on the lounge.

Thanks Tom, I feel as though I'm still in the middle of a dodgy dream!

Got it sorted and for the benefit of anyone else similarly mystified you can swap between the 2 views by clicking the "Overview" or "Discussion" tab at the top of each forum.

Nevertheless, the old system seemed more convenient for browsing the forums as it had far more info at a glance . . . . name of originator, name of last poster, number of Views and Replies.

Anyway, getting back to your original question Ryan, when you get fed up with FCE 4 you'll  be able to upgrade to FCP X as it's so comparatively cheap there is no point in bothering with FCE assuming that Apple don't have the same idea and drop it.

P.S. Didn't "City" do well last night?

Incidentally the upcoming FCP X is absolutely fantastic giving incredible control and getting rid of numerous niggles experienced by earlier versions of FCP and similar editing apps.

This gives a brief listing of some of the new and improved features:-

    Hi Ian,

I am going bonkers too. For example I want to respond to part of your post, before I just type after a
and
but now all your quotes come in one whole block ...

I also find it difficult to find the thread that I started

I agree with you on this one, I find it difficult to find my own thread ... oh well ...

Yes, though I hate to say this & broke my heart "Yes they did well last nite" but I am very sure we could have equalized with 11 vs 11

Can I ask Tom whether he is gonna write an editing workshop book on this new Final Cut Pro X ?

Help, I certainly need the book !

  • Tom Wolsky Level 10 (115,505 points)

Talking to the publisher about that. There is general interest, but no commitment. Certainly will do a DVD with Class on Demand. As soon as I know more I will post it on my web site http://www.fcpbook.com.

I stand to profit financially from the message.
