Unreadable USB flash drive

I have aSanDisk Cruzer 32 GB flash drive which has suddenly come up with a message thatit 'cannot be read on this computer' (Apple MacBook Pro, Mac OS 10.5.8). Mac OSDisk Utility and System Profiler both recognise the flash drive, but it doesnot mount or show on the desktop. The only options available when this isattempted is to initialise, ignore or eject. I do not want to initialise asthis will result in loss of my data.

I have triedthe following without success :

- insertedthe flash drive in another Mac computer

-reinstalled the system software

- triedSanDisk RescuePRO data recovery software from LC technology

One of thesuggestions made was to reinstall the USB mass storage driver from the Applewebsite, but I cannot seem to find this there.

I wouldappreciate any ideas or suggestions to recover the data.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7), 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM

Have you tried using Disk Utility to repair it. Unfortunately, if ** cannot repair it then your only options are to purchase Disk Warrior or use recovery software to try and recover your files.

General File Recovery

If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.

The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
