Massive Aperture library??

My Aperture photo library is something along the lines of 11GB in size.

This is strange as I'm pretty sure I haven't asked Aperture to copy any files into its library, but just reference the files as they exist on my hard drive....

Any ideas how to find out if it's disobeying me and if so how to remove any 'copies' or 'versions' it might have made??

Likely telling the truth...

Aperture keeps a small version of every picture in the library. You can change the size to something smaller but have to first purge the library of existing "thumbnails" and then re-build them.

I think you mean previews as the thumbnail sizes are pretty much fixed. I have some stuff on managing previews on my site...

This can be significant along with the thumbnail sizes. One note you must be aware of is that changing the preview settings in Aperture 3 preferences does not do ANYTHING to existing image previews. You will need to get rid of existing previews and regenerate them (or just get rid of them) to make any difference in your library. The preference settings are "going forward" not retroactive.

I find that manually managing previews vs automatically generating them is much more productive for me since I only want to share certain things with iLife, etc.
