Desktop has become hard to find in dialogue boxes

This is hard for me to explain, so bear with me. Up until afew days ago when saving things I could always see or have the option in the dialoguebox for desktop. Now it is no longer there, and I have user, which fishnets outto give me desktop, etc. But when my options are smaller in different programs Ican no longer click over to have desktop as my option. For saving even foropening things I have on my desktop. I know I am not explaining this clearly,but does anyone understand what I am saying? Have I done something, clickedsomething, to make desktop difficult to see when opening various dialogue boxes, including save and open?
