Any good tutorials/starting points (VERY BASIC) for a beginner with little experience?

Hi. I am interested in learning to developing on the mac and on iOS. I have SOME programming experience in Java (not enough to make an application that can be launched and save data or anything---although I have some experience with objects and classes). I was wondering if anyone knew of any tutorial that is good at teaching object oriented programming (geared toward Objective-C), whether it be a class, website, book, anything, for beginners with very little experience. I have been searching and searching but I can't find anything basic enough. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Visit the Dev Center for iOS:

http://developer.apple.com/

...locate the 'Getting Started' videos and the Obg-C/cocoa Tutorials.

Also check iTunes/iTunes U/Stanford videos.

Also iBooks for books from Apple.

Those are all valid links for learning OBJ-C, which is what you asked for. You have to start somewhere. If those exceed your reach then you shouldn't be asking for them at that level because they all represent getting started - not sure how to make it easier, sorry.

Why don't you list what you've tried so we don't waste your time suggesting resources you've already inspected.

iPhone Developer Beginner Resource Guide

Have you considered the fee based getting started classes at Big Nerd Ranch? Have you paid for developer access? Maybe take a course at a local college if you think that will help.

Hey applefandan,

The comments above have given you some really useful leads to follow. I figured I should give some books that you might want to look up. I found these useful when I first started out.

For learning iPhone development from scratch & making progress fairly quickly consider any of the following:

  1. http://www.amazon.com/Head-First-iPhone-Development-Applications/dp/0596803540/r ef=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303121527&sr=1-4
  2. http://www.amazon.com/Teach-Yourself-iPhone-Application-Development/dp/067233220 5/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303121568&sr=1-9
  3. http://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Absolute-Beginners-Getting-Started/dp/1430227001/re f=sr_1_10?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303121616&sr=1-10
  4. http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-iPhone-Development-Exploring-iOS/dp/143023024X/r ef=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303121732&sr=1-1

For understanding objective-C & some cocoa (the languages that you use to programme for IOS) consider these texts:

  1. http://www.amazon.com/Objective-C-Absolute-Beginners-iPhone-Programming/dp/14302 28326/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303121845&sr=1-5
  2. http://www.amazon.com/Learn-Objective-C-Mac-Scott-Knaster/dp/1430218150/ref=sr_1 _4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303121845&sr=1-4

Hope these help you with getting started. Once you are up and running - this forum is by the far the best i have used to ask for advice/help with coding. The programmers here are awesome.

I also had experience in Java, C++ and other languages and was looking to learn Objective-C and Cocoa.

In addition to Apple's own excellent documentation, referenced in other replies here, I found "Beginning Mac Programming" by Tim Isted a gentle introduction that you can get through fairly quickly. I found it a useful 1st introduction.
