iPad2 - Safari, greys-out attachment "Browse-for-file" button, WHY?

Hi all, I'm new to Apple, and the Safari browser, and have ghosted (grayed-out) attachment buttons in my e-mail web site, and other sites allowing attachments or file uploads of any kind, as well as not seeing the attachment file text box, or slider bar, for scrolling text boxes, and was wondering if this is normal to the iPad2 or the Safari browser, made for the iPad2?

I called "tech support" to ask this same question.

Their reply was to just read from a prepared script, to tell me I should reset the entire iPad2, and reset my network settings too.

Sort of like suggesting to someone, who says they have a leaky kitchen sink, they should knock-down the building, and re-construct it again to fix the sink.

Scary people at Apple Tech Support !!!

Not surprising, when the call-back from the automated system didn't even accept my touch-tones to accept the call-back. ... :-D

Anyway, the buttons, and others, show when using Internet Explorer 8 on another computer running windows.

Any thoughts on how to correct this on the iPad2 ?

You can not attach any filed using Safari on the iPad. That's why the button is not activated.

You can attach files using the email client on the iPad.

Hi, WBW,

Sorry to hear that. Is this only with Safari, or other browser Apps too?

(If not, what App is best for browsing online?)

And what of the other sites allowing attachments, like other tech support sites for other products when asked to send a text or picture of a screen capture, ... etc. ? (The e-mail client won't work for those sites.)

Also how does it explain the sliding bar not showing on text boxes similar to this site, when entering large replies?

Was Apple Tech Support correct to tell me I should have reset the entire iPad2 ? ... :-)

Other browsers are just using Safari as their engine so nothing else will work to attach files.

Some sites have iPad apps, like forums, dropbox so you can upload pictures. It's pretty limited. Either way besides pictures the iPad doesn't have a "user directory" with files you would be able to upload like text or PDF.

You can scroll inside large text box by using three fingers, (or two, I forgot).

So it has nothing to do with the web site not having a "mobile device" supported layout?

(this was what someone in Apple Sales suggested, and sounded plausible at that time)

If you're correct, and I have no reason to doubt you, the Rep in Apple Tech Support would have made me reset my iPad2 for no good reason.

Proving she was, blindly of her own thinking, just reading from a pre-made "check-list" SCRIPT.

No wonder everyone wants to "Jailbreak" these things.
