can two people sync their calendars
Is it possible for two mac users to be able to share their calendars.. ie see the other person's engagements on their calendar?

do you mean "share" calendars so that each other gets a view of the other's cal?
yes, select the calendar you want to share, go to calendar at the top, chose share, etc. (you can determine who see it). the other mac user would then do the same, sending you the invitation to "share" to his cal.
