updating G5 dvd drive firmware pioneer 107D
so in my G5 i have a pioneer dvr-107D drive, it only works at 4x burning DVD's, so i was looking in to updating the firmware to pioneers currant offering of firmware which is 1.22
changelog http://pioneer.jp/device_e/product-e/ibs/d...r_e.html#f_107d
lots of improvements i see
and maybe even use a hacked firmware which allows up to 12x burn speed (? too good to be true)
iv never done anything like this so im looking for some advice and encouragement.
one thing is the drive is the drive that came with the G5, will that make a difference?
will the official firmware allow it to burn faster than 4x dvd's, if i dont have to i wont use the hacked firmware (dont care about dvd playback)
or my next option is buying a new dvd drive, i noticed this lite on drive is sold as a mac drive on some sites. will it work in my G5?

one thing im not shore about is, will any drive work in my G5 or will i need a mac friendly drive?
PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), G5 dual 1.8
