Using itunes to add to music to PowerPoint presentations

Not sure if this is allowable - how do I convert/export a file to add as background music to a PP presentation?

The presentation is not for commercial use, rather just for my Uni studies (as a mature age student).

Power Point can handle a few different formats, but the most convenient is MP3. If the song you want to use is already in MP3, just find the file (if you don't know where it is, right-click the track in iTunes, and choose Show in Explorer) and use it for your presentation.

If your music is in some other format, you can use iTunes to convert it to MP3 using these instructions:

To put the music into the presentation, follow the PowerPoint Help, or look at this article:

Are there copyright restrictions, however, when you add to a presention, or video? Or because it's part of your own library, are you within the essense of the law to use in something at your job or school?

If it is music you acquired from the iTunes Store, it is limited to personal, non-commercial use. I doubt anybody will arrest you if you make a slideshow for a birthday party, but using it on the job could be over the line.

As for school, if you are in the USA, there are different rules due to the TEACH Act (Technology, Education and Copyright Harmonization Act), which your school administration can help with.

In general, you should not rely on us clowns in the Forum for legal advice.

I understand this may not be the place for legal questions. I guess my question is more general in nature. The presentations are not for commercial use but rather internal informational presentations (not for distribution to generate revenue). I assume, at this point, perhaps I can pull up a licensing agreement for iTunes...?

Yes you can. The Apple Legal statement for the iTunes Store, which includes the restriction that "You shall be authorized to use iTunes Products only for personal, noncommercial use," can be found here:
