iPhoto 11 and upload to Picasa web albums

There is no Picasa direct export from iPhoto. You can run the Picasa for MaC application with the iPhoto Library as a referenceD source of photoS and upload from it. That may be what you're thinking of.

Export does not export to the web - export to a desktop folder and upload to the web form there - then delete the desktop folder

Is a plug-in developed for iPhoto by Google. It was developed for iPhoto 08 and may or may not still work.

So, it's "official", in iPhoto '11 - the upload plugin developed by Google doesn't work anymore.

What does "official" mean? How is that distinuished from 'official' or even official

If it's of any use, the first of these might be relevant

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.

You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:

There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.

If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.

If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:

For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.

Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.

For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser

Other options include:

Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.

File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.

Show File: a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected. 3.b.

b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

Thanks, it wasn't so obvious that Finder Siderbar is missing the "Media" group. All other "Open" Windows do have them but not the Finder itself.

In iPhoto '11 you can still upload directly to Picasa Web albums 🙂.

It's not in the Share menu but in File > Export. Then you will see this:

From there it's as easy as can be.

I don't have that menu....

Because you don't have the Picasa plug-in referenced above in this thread

It failed to install on the newest version of iPhoto running on Snow Leopard. Is there another method of loading this plug-in?

Well then you're going to need to ask google to update it. Though I would point out it hasn't been updated since 2008. You may need to use the other methods in the thread or use a different app.

That's what I used to do with iPhoto 8 but the Picasa Web option doesn't appear now with File>Export.

From the iPhoto-Picasa Plugin download page:

Requires Mac OS 10.4+
Supports iPhoto 4,5,6 and iPhoto '08 (version 7)

As Terence has already pointed out, it only supports up to iPhoto 7 (08).

Just discovered that's there's a new iPhoto to Picasa Web Albums plugin 1.5 that is compatible with iPhoto 7 (08) and later. It's $20. 😟

Google have included the plugin with the latest full version of Picasa, not separately as previously. If you install from the link below the export plugin - as per the screen shot in a post above - will work again. And it won't cost you $20 :-)
