My iPod will not turn on and iTunes says it's in recovery mode but I don't want to restore it and lose all my music/pictures.

My 4th generation iPod touch will not turn on. I've tried every method of restarting it that I know, including the "press and hold both buttons" way. When I connected it to my computer, iTunes said it was in recovery mode. It told me to restore it, but I have a lot of music and pictures I've taken on it that are not backed up in any way and I don't want to lose them. Is there any other way?
