Swear to GAWD this will work to pair a wireless keyboard that is not working: HOLD DOWN THE BUTTON AT THE RIGHT FOR 6 ENTIRE SECONDS. This turns off the device. Then tap the button ONCE (don't hold down, just tap). The keyboard will turn on again and begin blinking. Then go to Bluetooth Setup Assistant. Your wireless keyboard will now show up. Follow the process for pairing.
I tried everything else on the discussion boards, too; wasted 3 hours trying to pair with other devices to no avail; could not find a serial number (turns out they don't have one) to register it; tried the steel wool trick even...NOTHING.
Anyway, hope this helps!

thanks I was on my way to buy a USB keyboard. strange thing : the sound volume worked , the MAC was showing 100 % battery, but no pairing. Since it didn't work with my iPad either, the trouble was obviously with this no-control-whatsoever keyboard.
****!!!! Today, I spent over 30 minutes trying to pair my Apple Bluetooth keyboard with my iPad Pro. Frustration City. I tried all of the BS recommendations (most of them say hold the button for 6 seconds), and NONE of them worked.
I searched for a different solution, and came across yours, posted here. I was skeptical, but tried it.
THIS WORKS AND IMMEDIATELY SOLVED MY PROBLEM.
SUCCESS! My iPad Pro and Bluetooth keyboard are now paired, just as you said they would!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! 🙂🙂🙂

Hi Barry,
Well I was getting an odd error where the "p" and the "o" keys were switched. I thought at first I was going crazy, but verified that in fact, when I typed an "o" a "p" showed up on the screen. I tried taking the batteries out but that had no effect.
What ended up solving the problem was that I took the batteries out and left it over night. Replaced with new batteries and all seems to be well.
Thanks for the willingness to help Barry! I hope that I can ramp up my Mac skills so that I can one day help others as well!
Hi again:
I don't know what happened, but I am glad that your KB is OK now! 😀
If you have the time, it is always nice to have new people willing to help other users. I have been rattling around Apple's forums for years and enjoy the occasional time I am able to provide helpful information. Our compensation is zero, but the satisfaction is priceless! 🙂

Wow, it worked! I only spend about 2 hours fooling with mine. The 6 seconds is the secret. Thanks!!
It seems like the paper manual or official support should show that without so much searching around.
This was the trick - keep holding the power button on the side of the keyboard down and click pair in the bluetooth preferences. That made the code come up. Without holding down the power button, it would fail to pair. I believe this was caused by my attempt to also pair the keyboard to my iPad.
Hello s:
There is no reset button on the keyboard.
What is it you wish to accomplish?
Barry
Thanks! It works.. You just save me hours :-)
So glad I found this solution. Couldn't pair new wireless keyboard with Macbook Pro though it worked perfectly with my iPad.
Thank you!
I often get stuck moving a apple bluetooth keyboard from one device to another.. the trick, as it has just taken me 20 mins to remeber, is to unlink it from the old device first!
Also make sure to unpair keyboard or turn off BT on all other devices, including the iPad that you paired with once a few months ago and isn't even in the same room.
I had to do this to get it working again...
Thanks takh, this worked!
