what does checking "hide" do in login items?

The list of programs in my Login Items has a checkbox to the left of it that says "hide". What happens if it is checked? I checked it for one program I'd like to not see windows from (it does a "background" task), but on startup it still shows its main window and shows up in the dock. Is that not what this is for?

thanks,

Mike

It is supposed to hide the app, and all its windows, after it starts up. If that isn't happening, you may have something wrong with your system (not sure what that might be) or the app itself may be doing something not quite kosher that is affecting the hiding behavior.

Thomas is correct about what the Hide parameter does for startup items. But the specific application you are using "Simon" also has the option to automatically hide the Simon Monitor window. With this option set, Simon will display the monitor window until you do anything else. Start an app, click on the desktop, move a window, it doesn't matter, as soon as you do something outside of the Simon monitor window, the window will close.

I find this very useful, since I can see the current results of Simon when the desktop loads, and then have it go away as soon as I start doing some work.
