    TY 4 UR answer, but

    I now am TOTALLY confused

    Before I tried connecting the

    - Apple Universal Dock (w/IR) to the iPad3 w/ just a male-female 30pin connector/extension cord

(this did not work, except for volume control)

Now I demolished my UniDock w/IR, connecting it straigt to the iPad, this works fine :-)

But wait, when I now connect the UniDock w/IR to iPad using the same extension cord IT DOES WORK !!

    Why now and not while the same device was intact??? )(*(#*^@*#&^%$#  C O N F U S I N G !!

Does this have something to do with a better/deeper connecting between the UniDock 30pin and the extention cord??

Okey, now it official.. I'm going crazy..

I now have my Apple Universal Dock (w/ IR) back together, in one piece and without left over parts ;-)

Connected it to my iPad3 (30pin connector) via the prementioned (see link above) extension cable and it works just fine!!

    Play/pause - stop - previous/next - volume control  ALL WORKS. (where before it didn't!)

So for everybody out there, you CAN connect an iPad to a Apple Universal Dock (w/IR) via a extension cable and use your (music) IR functions!

I'l try more apps as we go and keep this thread updated...

APPS that DO work w/ IR remote control via Universal Dock on an iPad3:

the following functions where tested:  play/pause, previous/next - volume     and work just fine

    Apple MUSIC

    Apple PHOTOS

    Apple VIDEOS

    Djay (Algorhythm)

    Spotify

APPS that DO NOT work w/ IR remote control via Universal Dock on an iPad3:

    DJ Rig (IK Multimedia)

    KEYNOTE (Apple)

This is how it's set up:

This is a great thread. i have an iPad4 and I'm sure I would face even more hurdles with the new lighning connector. I'm really surprised Apple didn't think of this. I really wish there was a iPad dock that had all the most wanted features in it - IR, HDTV out, SD card reader, USB port.

Apple usually leaves things like that to 3rd party developers.

    I agree Dah.Veed,

But, since the apple remote works for all other iDevices or more accurately the universal dock fits all others and the remote works on iMacs and MacBooks the iPad is the only (correct me if I'm wrong) device not suited for it.

One could argue Apple kinda dropped the 'apple' here..

I am however very content I got it to work due to, amongst others, your comments and replies, so thank you for that!

Apple doesn't try to cover every possible base. Apple leaves a lot of room for 3rd party developers to make money and solve other needs for its devices. You can find 3rd party iPad docks with IR support for the Apple Remote.
