I have a the 2011 Macbook Pro with 8 GB RAM and run windows 7 through boot camp. I recently purchased GTA IV via steam (I think I have the exact same situation as you! :L). When I loaded it up there were missing textures and the graphics settings were set to minimum and I can't change them. In theory I should be easily able to play the game with a 2.3 GHz i5 dual core, 8 GB RAM, and 1.5 Total calculated Graphics memory. However after reading the entire internet in relation to the topic, I believe the problem is the simple fact that we have INTEL built in graphics 3000 and not a ATI RADEON, or NVIDIA. The game is not friendly towards the idea of "shared video ram" and believes you have much less graphics power than you really do i.e. 300 mb or something. In the game settings it says "resource usage 230/60" meaning i have 60 mb of graphics (get real...) when i really have a total of something like 1.7 GB. As much as I hate to inform you, having only found out recently for myself, im afraid it just wont run 😟 I hope this answers your questions as it doesn't resolve the issue. I personally feel they are way to vague on the Apple store and steam regarding compatibility and in an ideal world we would get a refund, but i dont think thats likely :L

hi guys,
i do have a fix to this problem. I have GTA IV on steam and am running a 2011 macbook pro 13" with similar specs. Simply go to steam and right click on GTA IV on your games list. then click on properties, then set launch options. Now enter "-availablevidmem 4.500" and click ok. Now run gta iv (i dont remember the exact settings i apologise) go to the options then the graphics settings. You'll notice it now says that ur computer has more than 60MB of memory. Change the settings to suit ur needs but make sure it stays within the set limits. Now run the game and its fine. I had this exact same issue, i checked the video and everything, im sorry its a tad vague. I saw this post about 15 minutes ago and found a fix. I dont know if the mac can support higher graphics. you can manipulate the code you input to steam.
I hope this fixes your problem too. by the sounds of it it should and if it doesnt then simply remove the code and ur game will run fine.
Best of luck, let me know how it goes

Im sure everybody has already figured this out or found fixes, but for those that havent i think i have a easy solution. I had that same exact issue with mine the second time i installed GTA IV. I dont think its your MBP but the game itself. Im running windows 7 and have GTA IV on an actual disk that goes through GFWL. My issue was the patch. Usually it automatically uninstalled Rockstar Social Club and installed the patch but this time i had to do it manually. If you have Social Club, go into you GTA IV file, uninstall RGSC then go to Rockstar.com and download the 1.0.7.0 patch and run it. That solved my issue so it very well may solve yours too. I dont know if its the same through Steam but i dont think itll hurt to try.

If GTA IV believes the system is under specification even though the computer is powerful enough to run the game with higher settings, the following will fix this problem.

This will work if your problem looks like this: "resource usage 230/60" and you can't change any other setting

Just follow the steps:

Step 1: Create a text file named ‘commandline.txt’ (without the " ")

Step 2: Put the following statement inside it:

i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 (with the -)

i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0 (with the -)

Step 3: Open the main GTAIV folder (C/ program files (86)/ rockstar games/ GTA IV) and copy the commandline.txt file into it.

Step 4: locate the file "GTAIV.exe" (in GTA main folder)

Right click the file and select Properties

Under the shortcut tab, you will see an area that says Target

Modify the Target adding the command line after the last quotation mark (just add the statement you added in commandline.txt)

(remember, i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 / i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0)

It should look something like this:

User uploaded file

Make sure to add space between " and -"

I hope This helps, although late cx
