Turn on "Internet Sharing" in your System Preferences.
Choose to share from Ethernet to Airport.
Then connect your iPad to the Airport network.iMac 27 (11,3), iMac 21.5 (10,1), MacMini (3,1), iPod Touch, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

On your iMac visit System Preferences>Sharing>Internet Sharing
If your iMac is wired to your internet connection simply share your Ethernet connection to computers using Airport.
Set up Airport/WIFI coming from your iMac by visiting AirPort Options in bottom right corner of Sharing... Choose your name, channel, WEP password...hit OK. Close sharing preferences.
Jump on your iPad and under settings choose your iMac wifi that you had just configured.
Obviously your iMac needs to be on for your iPad to continue using wifi...and these quick steps apply to your iMac only if you are connected via Ethernet and not already wifi.
