Hi all:
When I try to copy a file from one folder to another, it gets to 95% done then I get the above error. What is it, and what can I do about it - if anything?

In those circumstances it usually means you have an Alias file that can't find its original source file.

Open the Folder you're trying to copy.
Click the 'List View' icon, then the 'Kind' column. -You may have to set "Show View Options" in the Finder's View Menu.
All Aliases in the folder should sort to the top/or bottom of the folder's file listing.
Go through the aliases one by one using the contextual Menu's (right click) "Show Original" item.
When you come to the bad one, the Mac should offer to help you fix it.

I was having a similar problem but when I navigate to the folder I want the Alias to point to it won't let me choose it, that's when I get error code -8060; thoughts?

I've tried finder and folder setting, but it seems the folder has become a ghost.
I'm having the same problem with an alias file, (not folder) that is showing up after the original file was deleted. I did get a help box to Delete alias, or Change alias. Since delete alias did not function, I tried doing a change alias to associate it with a throwaway file. I then got error code 8060, and had to force quit finder. (This is with Lion)
I have the same problem. I use Snowleopard. Would be nice, if somebody can help!
I had the same problem.
I made an alias by dragging the directory name to the Favorites sidebar.
Then I deleted the directory.
Now I get the error.
How to fix.
WHat i did was to make an alias of the named directory. If you have deleted it, create it somewhere then create an alias.
Then drag the alias across to the Favorites sidebar.
It was then fixed.
I was able to get as far as the "delete alias", or "fix alias", and after that I would get error -8060. Tried creating duplicate and another alias and dragging it into sidebar etc, nothing worked. It was after a recent HDD wipe & restore (w time machine).
HERE IS THE FIX: We all tried to drag the bad alias away and drop it; no avail. BUT if you HOLD COMMAND (aka Apple) key while dragging the bad alias out of the sidebar, it will work. 🙂
