Unable to print wirelessly on iPad but iPhone prints fine on wireless printer

Why is it that when I try to print on my iPad2 that the printer doesn't work even though the iPad display shows the correct printer is selected? I have my HP wireless printer set up wirelessly (without Ethernet) and have no problem wirelessly printing on my MAC or my iPhone (so long as computer is turned on and wireless network up and running).

Stephanie-

Your comment suggests that the printer is NOT an AirPrint printer, but your Macintosh computer is sharing it over WiFi as if it was AirPrint. If it works on your iPhone, it should work on your iPad2.

One possibility is that you have a print job hanging up the iPad's print queue. Double click the button below the screen and you can see the currently running Apps across the bottom. Scroll across and see if you can find the Print Queue. If it is there, open it and delete the bad print job.

Another possibility is your WiFi router does not handle Bonjour data correctly. If that is the case, you might benefit from using an App like Print n Share that does not require your Macintosh computer to be left on.

Fred's suggestions are very helpful, also double check that you are connected to the correct WiFi network. In some neighbourhoods where there is lots of WiFi access points sometimes your device may connect to one that has no security and has the same SSID as one you have previously connected to elsewhere.

For example if you were at a friends house and connected to their "linksys" access point that they never configured with a unique name or security, and your neighbour has done the same thing, your iPad may not actually "see" your printer as it may be on a different network.
