If you were only out of warranty by a few days, maybe a few weeks, you might have a chance.
The original iPhone, unless you purchased AppleCare, has been out of warranty for at least 2 years at this point.
You've gotten your moneys worth, bite the bullet and upgrade.
Just FYI, Apple does not fix iPhones. They will replace batteries in store, everything else is device replacement (either warranty or out of warranty).
