Can't connect FaceTime with iPad 2.

After entering my Apple ID I get a message saying...


FaceTime Activation

Could not sign in. Please check your

network connection and try again.


My network seems to be working fine and am able to access the internet as well as my Apple ID account through the internet.


Please help...

I have the exact same issue with my (64GB, WiFi only) iPad 2;


FaceTime Activation fails every time with a "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again" error; no proposed fix works.


My Apple ID, Apple ID password, and network settings are 100% correct.


Please advise.

I have the same problem. I tried Facetime between two iPad2 devices over wifi. Eventually, I had to resort to using Skype. Very frustrating. The video image is extremely grainy in Skype. I don't know if video quality would be any better with Facetime, but I doubt it as that seems to be a camera issue. In addition, Skype on iPad may be too much for the device. iPad2s start making annoying squeaking noise when Skype is on for a little while.


I am planning to take this issue to one of the apple stores next week.

Hello gents


I also had this problem and tried a number of options. Port forwarding did not do the trick and as it poses a security risk it's not the wisest thing to do anyway. But after a very long search I found another tip which was to set the DNS of every Apple device you want to run FaceTime on, to 8.8.8.8


I tried this, and now FaceTime works on my iPad2 wifi/32 and also on my iMac and my MacBook Pro. On the same wireless network!


So this action seems to solve both the "can't connect" problem and the problem of not being able to run FaceTime at the same time on multiple Macs.


Just to make sure you should write down the original DNS address which is probably 10.0.0.138..


On iPad2, exit FaceTime, then go to settings, find the wireless network you're using, and tap the blue arrow thing next to the network name. There you will be able to access the DNS number. Just change it and save settings, then start FaceTime again.

DNS (re)settings did not solve my issue.


I called Apple Support and ended up having to reset my password AND create a new email alias with which my Apple ID was associated (frustrating, as all such aliases should resolve to the same Apple ID).


This seems to indicate an internal (mac.com) authentication server issue.

I don't recall the error message, but also had trouble signing into FaceTime while trying out my new iPad 2. After a couple attempts I gave up. Later I found that I had two new E-mail messages from Apple, wanting me to authenticate my Apple account.


After following directions, I can now sign-in to FaceTime using the same ID and password I use here.

I was advised to change the DNS setting to 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4

Eight digits separated by a coma and space. In Mlaysia, both the caller and recieiver have to change the iPad DNS setting.

I was told that TM's streamyx router is blocking certain signals and that blocks Face time connection,too.


When I used FT to call a friend in Australia, he told me that he has not changed any DSN settting of his iPad at all.in other words, nothing blocks the FT connection there. Why does it happen in Malaysia? Maybe TM can answer that.
