Home Sharing withOUT internet

trying to enable Home Share through the Advanced menu requires userid and pw (no problem) BUT - iTunes gives error message -3150 stating there's no internet connection.

I want to run movies and music from a local drive and don't need internet.

well, for the initial set up of home sharing, you need to have an internet connection. once set up, an internet connection is not necessary anymore.

ed. I can't believe Apple would make it mandatory for users to have to incur this additional expense.

Unfortunately the have mad it mandatory for both devices to set up for Homes Sharing properly. If your content is DRM protected from iTunes it is also needed for playback when it checks 'authorisation' - really makes it less useful for travel/vacation if you can't guarantee an accessible internet connection - AppleTV can't use internet web page logins to enable a connection.

I've got a quick workaround for this if you do not have Internet access. Just turn your phone into a personal hotspot and temporarily connect your your computer that has home sharing. Once you get logged in and have home sharing on turn off your hotspot and connect to your Wi-Fi Or LAN. You shouldn't need the Internet for for all sharing that does not require authentication.
