Okay so I have a 2nd gen ipod and I tried to restore it as I'm giving it away but when I tried to do it itunes said that the restore failed and my ipod was frozen on the home screen. None of the buttons would work so I let the battery die and now whenever I connect it to my pc or try to charge it using an adapter the screen continuously changes from the apple logo to the charging icon and back again. If anyone knows how to fix it or if its now a lost cause, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The software can't run on a second because the software needs a mic and a camera control and if your second iPod do t have it you can't upgrade it and btw they have stopped supporti g the iPod 2 for about 2 years now

Though the fragmentation of the Android market is unsetteling, his whole 2nd Gen debacle has convinced me to buy an ANDROID based tablet rather than an iPad. Why? Android is an Open Source system. If you have just a little tech mojo, or the capability and willingness to learn, you can hack it to your hearts desire without interference from the maker.

My wife got me a 8 GB touch 2 years ago and it was sold as a 3rd gen touch...according to Apple, it is not their fault that the store had it marked wrong. It was indeed a NEW VERSION of the 2nd gen device...complete with a different case (slightly thinner and flatter...barely perceptible...Serial number is etched in a different location...etc) from the original 2nd gen, and new firmware, and a new communications processor that now included blue tooth which was enabled eventually for these new configurations (thank you Apple). So yes it is a different flavor of the 2nd gen, and also has a different firmware revision (Hackers who jailbreak them will know that this is the notorious "MC" version of the firmware which requires a slightly different process to JB.) I know these differences are there because my wife has the original version 2nd gen.

It's very interesting that Apple released this version of the touch at the same time as the 3rd gen 16 and 32GB models, and that Apple made no apparent effort to properly educate retailers and prevent them from mis-marketing the 8GB device as also being a 3rd Gen. NOTE: Since I was not the one to make the purchase, I never bothered to do the research it until the OS failed to upgrade past 4.2.1...I was, and still am satisfied with its functionality and use it almost every day...that is...asside from the fact that it cannot be upgraded, and new applications are incompatible.

That brings me to another point...At least 20% percent of the iOS market is on version a 4.x.x version. My assumption is that those people are "stuck" with a 2nd gen touch that cannot be upgraded. If I'm not mistaken, 20% is still considered to be a statistically significant portion of a market. Unfortunately this same article...posted by an IOS developer...shows that developers are (understandably) itching to shed support for the 4.x.x OS as fast as possible. You see, they either have to support multiple OS versions or cede 20% of the possible market. If Apple continues to obsolesce their devices prematurely through OS abandonment, I would argue that developers are going to end up supporting more iOS flavors rather than less as would be their desire.

The end game is that developers don't want to support old OS's, and if Apple can't support their designs for any more than 2 years, then what is the point of this "insanely good" design that they are so **** proud of? Proprietary systems, when sufficiently supported, are a beautiful thing...they just work...and keep on working. Just look at the old Mac's. Apple made the new OS's work with those old systems for as long as they could. But I fear that those days of long lived support are in their twilight years if not already pushing up dasies. The obvious downside is that the proprieter may discontinue support at their whim. I say whim because I cannot beleive that Apple does not have the technical ability to continue support for this hardware...it is still a viable device...and it is insanely well designed.

My final plea to Apple: We still constitute 20% of your market, don't abandon a 2.5 year old platform, give us one or two more upgrades which are substantially similar to the current OS, though without support for the additional hardware.

As I said that is not true. You can use airplay with music and videos stored on your iPod as well as Youtube using 4.2.1. You just need 4.3 to airplay from a compatible 3rd-party app (i.e. Vevo, IMDB) or website.

If you are not seeing the airplay logo, make sure it is enabled on your Apple TV and that both devices are on the same network. Verify you are on 4.2.1

If you've done that and still nothing then something on your network is causing an issue.
