You should run your device off of the battery periodically. As Apple recommends you "want to keep the electrons flowing." When I purchased my latest MBA, I specifically asked an AG about this. He said the best was to extend the life of the battery was to charge it up all the way, take it off the charger, let it drain to about 7% while using it and then plugging it back in. Apple's example is the commuter that takes it off the juice from home, runs on battery while on the train and plugs back in at the office.
