Netflix is a blessing on the AppleTV. I've been enjoying it for the greater part of a week. Suddenly, while watching an Instant Streaming title... the quality lowered considerably. I paused the title, exited to the menu, and tried to launch the title once again (after checking my internet connection!) It did not try to load, it merely displayed the error: "Netflix is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

I exited out to the menu again, and noticed that the Movie Poster images while I had Netflix selected were not "Suggestions For You" but rather "New Arrivals." It had never shown the "New Arrivals" before.

I unplugged the power cable and gave it upwards to 5 minutes. I plugged the cable back in and tried once more. The Movie Poster images were back to being based off of "Suggestions For You," so I had high hopes. Nope, once I tried to select a title... the same error greeted me.

I have gone to the website on my 13" Macbook, and I have streamed Netflix over my PS3 console to confirm this is indeed an AppleTV-problem. Netflix is not currently unavailable.

I have unplugged the device once again and will leave it sit for an hour or more.

I am incredibly dissatisfied with this predicament, especially considering I will now waste a majority of my day-off trying to fix this error to simply enjoy a few films on the one day I can.

Thanks.

At first I thought it was just Netflix being unavailable for a few minutes. I tried again hours later and I still got the same problem. The fix for this was pretty simple. I simply unplugged the power cable and put it back on. The Apple TV rebooted and I was able to stream Netflix again.

    Hope that Helps!

I had tried unplugging and cycling the power many times. While it fixed the images being shown, every title still displays the error message. It won't even load the details page where it lists the description, director, actors, etc... you select the movie poster, and it instantly displays the error. It's as if it doesn't even TRY to load it. There is no wait or short load... it just displays the text error.

I just restored the device through iTunes, using a microUSB cable. After the initial setup... Netflix is still producing the EXACT same error. Everything else works fine, including the iTunes rental service.

I brought the device upstairs and connected it to a different HDTV, this time opting to use an ethernet cable instead of the wireless connection. Same error.

I have tried everything I can think of. Is my AppleTV simply fried?

How could this be Netflix's fault? Streaming works on literally every other device, just not the AppleTV.

all day, netflix has been displaying "Netflix is currently unavailable. Try again later." though i can stream through my laptop (mbp) and my tivo and my ipad. can't be a netflix issue.

have reset my apple tv a few times (pulling the plug and through the remote) no fix. restarted airport extreme - no fix.

network test on apple tv shows it's fine. 4 out of 5 blocks on "signal strength" for apple tv. reset the apple tv (wipe settings and set up again) and still no fix.

Having this issue, too, though I've found that if I go to the Menu then right back to Netflix, it works.  Don't think it's a Netflix issue as much as it is an Apple Netflix API issue.  Perhaps this is something Apple can improve behind the scenes versus pushing a software update?

Thank You!  Your statement/suggeston "if I go to the Menu then right back to Netflix" worked for me too.

I finally unplugged the HDMI cable & power cable, and left the AppleTV sit for 2.5 hours while I went out for supper.

When I returned, I plugged the HDMI cable in first, followed by the power cord. It presented me with a "Setting the Date & Time..." screen, and loaded shortly afterward.

When I tried to access Netflix, it stuck on the "Accessing Netflix..." screen for upwards to 3 minutes, but then loaded perfectly fine. I can access the details pages and stream titles once more!

It indeed must be an Apple API issue, as other programs- Plex for example, which presumably also uses an API, worked just as flawlessly as the official website itself.

    Hm...

OMG, we've had the "Netflix unavailable" issue for days.  We cycled the power several times and the ONLY think that worked was returning to the menu page and immediately back to Netflix and now it's available. THANK YOU!

The instructions here helped me out: http://www.compunoodle.com/fix-apple-tv-2-netflix-streaming-problems/

Good luck all, it's a bummer to be without Netflix, especially since we'll be paying for streaming in a few weeks.

    Cheers, j

I'm adding a data point to this thread - I've got an Apple TV (I have no idea how to tell if it's a 2 or what, but we bought it this year, so I'm assuming it is) and I've had no problems with Netflix until this evening. I've been watching Mad Men via streaming, and today when I tried to access the episode list, it gives me the dreaded "Netflix is currently unavailable. Try again later." message.

    WHAT DIDN'T WORK:

Changing to manual DNS configurations as J Ashley mentions above.

    Power cycling the unit.

Going to the menu and immediately going back into Netflix

    WHAt DID WORK:

    Nothing as yet.

The curious thing about this behavior for me is that it is ONLY happening for the show "Mad Men." After reading some other threads on this topic, I was able to instantly stream Prince of Persia over the Apple TV with no problems. I then tried another TV show, "Glee," and was able to access the episode guide for that show as well. What seems to be happening is that selecting Mad Men doesn't attempt to access Netflix, for whatever reason.

In about 20 minutes tonight, I've seen a lot of threads on this problem dating back to March of this year or earlier, with no input from Apple and no solutions offered. Is anyone in Cupertino working on this problem? It's really frustrating.

I am having the same problem this morning, also only occuring with Mad Men, via netflix, on apple TV.  I am home sick and watched one episode and when I tried to get the next, got the error.  I am able to watch everything else I've tried so far.  Kind of curious, may just be temporary.

Netflix support says they are having problems with Apple TV streaming for Community and Mad Men (maybe others too). Engineers are apparently working on a fix.

I have the same problem with my apple tv. My solution.... I dusted off my Roku, connected it back to my TV and right now I am enjoying my Mad Men. Honestly Apple and Steve you need to get your act together. This is not Netflix's fault. Mad Men has a HUGE following and I want to enjoy mine on my TV.
