Press and Hold the Home and Wake Sleep buttons until the Apple Logo appears. (about 10 seconds)

If still bad, try to restore it from within itunes on your computer.

where are the home/wake buttons?

The home button is the round dimpled button on the front. The wke/sleep (or power) button is on the top. It's the one you push to turn it on.

Press and hold both at the same time until the apple appears (usually about ten seconds) and then the iPad will restart.

i am sorry i have the same problem. i just bought my ipad one week ago, suddently the screm become black and i try everything but it wont charge and turn on. i really do not know. sorry again iam french speaker

If you tried the above fixes with no good results, contact Apple and get the iPad repaired or replaced under warrantee.

This has happened twice to me now with my iPad2 - I never had the problem with iPad1. The first time I got it to work by plugging it into the mains for a hour - even though I had a 50% charge already. The second time I held the power and home buttons together for about 15 seconds until the logo appeared and it then sprung into life and made the "beep" sound that it makes when you first plug it in. I have no idea what caused it but on both occasions the last thing that I did was play Angry Birds.
