owner enable external drive

I have had a problem with permissions with built-in Hard drive.

Once this has fixed, discover that i cannot write onto External Drives.

How do i enable Read & Write back to External drives?

Thank you for your reply.

1x is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32)

2nd is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

as said on my question, I have been able to R&W until i suffered a permission problem on my Main HD.

when the problem was resolved, I found that I could only Read from the 2 USB HD.

Both USB HD are NOT owners enabled and in Get Info show Read Only

I think you will have to use Windows to fix the FAT32 drive. On the Mac OS drive try this:

1. Select the drive's icon. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Owner's and Permissions section click on the lock icon and authenticate.

2. Uncheck the box labeled, "Ignore permissions on this volume."

3. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder.

4. At the prompt enter:

sudo chown root:admin

Put a space after "admin" then drag the disk's icon into the Terminal window. Press RETURN.

Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed. Press RETURN.

See if this doesn't restore the drive to normal use.
