How long it takes to load 30K photos. It seems hangs
I have just upgraded to iLife 11. However, I could not get my pictures back onto the iphoto. The screen is black and busy sign for hours without anything.

did you upgrade to the latest version (9.1.1) prior to starting?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I think I have included version 9.1.1 half way. What should I do ?
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Have downloaded the iphoto library manager. Relaunch iphoto. The screen is still blank with busy icon.

When opening the iPhoto Library Manager. The Albums in Default shows "The album data file for this library could not be found. Opening this library in iPhoto will caused the album data file to be created.
The info for Defaul location is
/Users/derek/Pictures/iPhoto Library
Well that tells you that the Library is severely damaged. You need to either restore from your back up or recover your photos and start over.

I have a time machine backup. I have tried copy the old files to replace the entire library. I would much appreciate if you could tell me how to restore from back up or recover my 80G photos.
Check the help on Time Machine for detaisl, but in essence you use the TM interface to navigte back to a date when you know the Library was working correctly, then press restore.

Can I copy the iPhoto Library from the Time machine backup file from the backup date one day before the installation of my iPhoto 11 ?
Then follow Open my Photo Manager and Rebuild.
Is this the right Way?
Thanks

Restore from TM. Open IPhoto Library Manager and use Default and Rebuild -> Relaunch Iphoto 11. Is this the right steps
It's likely the reson you can't open the Library is because it is damaged. Restoring a good back up shold solve the problema and you may not need to do any more.
