no sound coming out of garageband but normal speakers still work help? k

the song we are recording using garage band was working fine but then we went to play back what we just recorded and no sound came out

the speakers are working fine on other programs

all the stuff we recorded is still visible and it says that it playing

help?

If you go to Garageband -> Preferences -> Audio/MIDI ->


There's an Audio Output (and Audio Input) setting. Make sure your Audio Output setting is set to the device that's connected to your speakers. For example, if you are using an audio interface, make sure it's selected.


If the settings are correct, you could always try restarting your computer (and/or your interface if you're using one). Sometimes that does the trick.

This comment may be ages old, but it was the only one in a stack of sources I could find online that worked. There were so many people suggesting things like locking and unlocking tracks, checking to make sure you had your devices set up correctly etc. This advice however went straight to the point and it worked. Although I will say that I am wondering why on earth it muted in the first place since I never toggled the setting. (I wouldn't make my microphone be the source of output, duh) But I suppose it doesn't matter since I happened upon this fix. THANKS A TON!
