Divx web player is suddenly crashing safari. How can i get back to watching divx videos though safari?

Until a couple of weeks ago, I was watching a TV series through Divx web players on sites like vidxden. It ran perfectly before but it has recently been crashing safari before the site even fully loads. Here is an example of what site crashes my safari browser.

I have tried fully removing and reinstalling divx from the apple site, in QuickTime components. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html

but it doesn't help.

Reading other forums, I learned that 3rd party extensions might be causing this problem so I disabled and reinstalled an extension called Adblocker, and restarted safari. No help.

Furthermore, i have been getting mixed responses from the Divx players. At one point, safari crashed as soon as the web page began loading. At another, the video played for less than a second and just froze. Finally, the video somehow began to play, but with no sound. Unfortunately, i don't recall what I did at each point to get those results, but at this point, I'm back to safari freezing as soon as a web page with a Divx player loads.

If anyone has any ideas as to what the problem might be, and how it may be resolved, please take a moment to help me solve this problem. Divx players are the best to watch movies and shows and it would be great if they would work without crashing safari. Thanks in advance 🙂

I installed Perian and fully removed Divx. When I try to play the video now, Safari does not crash but I am back to the point where the video plays soundless for a second then freezes. I get a message from safari informing me that QuickTime is missing the components to play this video and directs me to the page that I downloaded divx from initially.

Perian does not seem to be working but maybe I either didn't fully delete divx, or didn't fully install perian. When removing divx, I simply went to my finder folder and searched every area for divx content. I then right clicked on all the content, clicked "show package contents" and through everything within into the trash. If there is something I'm missing, or somewhere I could check for Divx content that I might have missed, please let me know.

With regard to Perian, I went to http://perian.org/ to install perian. clicking the icon in the dmg. installed the perian preference plane. from there, there was an option to install perian. I clicked that but nothing seemed to install. I did not see anything load but it did tell me that it was installed.

Please let me know if i am doing anything wrong, or if there is anything else I can try.
